Smile Aesthetics

If you are unhappy with the shape, color, alignment, or length of your teeth when you talk, laugh, eat, or look in the mirror, smile design can transform your appearance. In smile design, your teeth, gums, lips, and face are considered as a whole. A treatment plan unique to you is prepared by considering parameters such as your facial features, lips, gums, gender, skin color, and personality.

During the initial session at our clinic, photos and videos will be taken to document the aspects of your teeth that you find problematic and your expectations from the treatment. Including photos of smile types you admire can also help in shaping the final restoration.

The collected images are transferred to a digital platform. Using computer software, virtual samples of the planned restorations are created by taking into account the proportions of your face, lips, gums, the shapes of your teeth, and your preferences. These samples are then shared with technicians to create a mock-up of the actual restoration, which is shown to the patient. Additional photos and videos are taken with the mock-up. A preview of how your smile will look after the treatment is provided, allowing you to see the details of the designed restoration. Once the design is approved by the patient, production of the restoration begins. After production, final checks are made, and the patient achieves their new smile.

Various treatment methods are available in smile design, including porcelain laminate restorations, zirconium crowns, pink aesthetics, teeth whitening, bonding, orthodontic treatment, and dental implants. Depending on the existing condition, sometimes a combination of these methods is used, while other times a single method suffices. More comprehensive information about our treatment options can be found under the “Treatments” section. Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are aesthetic restorations made entirely of porcelain, applied by removing a minimal amount of tissue from the teeth. They are applied with minor abrasions on the front surfaces of the teeth. These ultra-thin restorations allow you to design and change your smile as desired.

When Do We Prefer Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are preferred in the following situations:

  • Presence of fractures in the front teeth,
  • Gaps between the teeth,
  • Wearing of the front surfaces of the teeth due to various reasons,
  • Dissatisfaction with the color of the teeth,
  • Color changes due to large fillings in the front teeth,
  • Teeth being so short that they are not visible when smiling or talking.

Lifespan and Amount of Abrasion of Porcelain Veneers

With good oral hygiene, porcelain veneers can be used just like your natural teeth. The thickness of porcelain veneers ranges from 0.1 mm to 2 mm. While their thinness might raise concerns about fragility, contrary to popular belief, modern bonding technologies make porcelain veneers stronger than natural tooth structure. These restorations, which provide excellent aesthetic harmony, enable minimal invasive work on your teeth. Additionally, the smooth surface of porcelain veneers minimizes issues like discoloration and tartar formation that occur on natural teeth.

How Long Does It Take to Make Porcelain Veneers?

Designing, finalizing details, producing, fitting, and bonding porcelain veneers typically takes about a week, with minimal pain involved. To design the color, shape, and size of your teeth with our dentists and for more information, you can contact us via our Patient Consultation Line.

Composite Bonding

Permanent teeth can sometimes be spaced apart for various reasons. These gaps can appear between two teeth or multiple teeth. Various treatment options are available to correct this condition, which can cause aesthetic issues, food accumulation, or tilting of the teeth. These options include orthodontic treatment, composite fillings, veneers, or crowns.

Composite bonding is a type of composite application used to close small gaps, correct crooked or rotated teeth, and treat cases of wear and mild discoloration with minimal removal of tooth material. Special composite materials designed for this purpose are used. Composite bonding is preferred because it is highly conservative, can be completed in a single session, involves minimal abrasion of the tooth, and provides aesthetically pleasing results. Despite all these favorable features, discoloration can occur over time, requiring replacement depending on the patient’s dietary and brushing habits.

What Should Be Considered After Composite Bonding Application?

Especially within the first 48 hours, to protect the composites from stains or minimize color formation, avoid colored foods and drinks. Staining substances like tea, coffee, and tobacco can discolor the resin material used in the bonding application. To ensure that composite bondings remain long-lasting and retain their color, maintain regular dental hygiene (toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, interdental brush) and do not neglect routine dentist check-ups and tartar cleaning. Unfortunately, composite resins are not as strong as natural teeth. They can break from biting or chewing hard objects. The lifespan of a composite bonding application is generally a few years, after which it may need to be replaced or repaired. A dental examination is essential to determine the most suitable treatment option for the individual.

Zirconium Crowns

Zirconium crowns are dental restorations developed to eliminate the aesthetic disadvantages of metal-supported porcelain in aesthetic dentistry. Traditional metal-based porcelain crowns create an opaque appearance, causing the teeth to look uniform and artificial. In zirconium crowns, zirconium, a white material, is used instead of metal as the substructure. Zirconium crowns are entirely ceramic and metal-free, offering excellent aesthetic and optical properties. They provide much better gum compatibility compared to classic metal-based porcelain crowns. The common issue of gum discoloration seen with metal-based porcelains is not encountered with zirconium crowns. Due to their ability to mask the underlying tooth color, excellent aesthetic results can be achieved even with very dark-colored teeth. As a tissue-friendly material, zirconium is non-allergenic. Its excellent thermal insulation properties mean it transmits less heat to the tooth compared to metal-based porcelains, resulting in less hot/cold sensitivity.

Can Zirconium Crowns Be Used on Any Tooth?

Zirconium-based porcelains are natural and aesthetic enough to be used on front teeth, and strong enough to be used on back teeth. Therefore, zirconium-based porcelains can be safely preferred for both front and back teeth.

How Long Does It Take to Complete Zirconium Crowns?

Designing, producing, fitting, and bonding zirconium crowns typically takes about a week. For further details about these restorations, which require knowledge and expertise, you can reach out to us through our Patient Consultation Line.

E Max Crowns

E Max crowns are made entirely of porcelain, specifically lithium disilicate, and contain no metal substructure. These restorations boast excellent aesthetic and optical properties, even superior to zirconium. However, since their durability is not as high as zirconium, they are more suitable for the restoration of front teeth. E Max crowns offer much better gum compatibility compared to traditional metal-based porcelain crowns, avoiding the common issue of gum discoloration seen with metal-based porcelains.

These restorations, which possess more aesthetic qualities than metal-based and zirconium crowns, require reduction around the entire circumference of the tooth. However, with the knowledge and skill of the dentist, this reduction can be minimized to 1-2 mm. With a design tailored to the front teeth, E Max crowns can help you achieve your desired smile.

Metal-Supported Porcelain Crowns

Metal-supported porcelain crowns are one of the oldest types of crowns that contain porcelain. They are still used today not only for their aesthetic qualities but also because of their strong structure. However, advancements in materials have also improved their aesthetics. An opaque layer applied over the metal substructure minimizes the metallic appearance. These crowns are still relevant in areas such as stabilizing loose teeth, restoring strength to teeth with significant tissue loss, and multi-unit implant-supported restorations.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are a method of restoring significantly damaged teeth due to tissue loss. These restorations help replace lost tissue and provide added durability to the remaining tooth structure. In cases of significant tissue loss, attempting to use composite fillings often results in the filling falling out or breaking, making inlays and onlays increasingly important. Choosing these restorations over full crowns also results in less tissue removal.

Can They Be Applied to Any Tooth?

Except in exceptional cases, inlays and onlays can be comfortably and frequently applied to any tooth, and they provide aesthetic restorations.

How Long Do Inlays and Onlays Take to Complete?

The entire process for inlays and onlays, including tooth preparation, measurement, production, and bonding, typically takes about 2 to 3 days.

The preparation for these restorations is highly precise, requiring knowledge and expertise. For further information about these restorations, you can reach out to us through our Patient Consultation Line.
